500 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS JOIN NIKE TO KICK OFF THE SUMMER WITH THE ULTIMATE BASKETBALL CELEBRATION

PRO ATHLETES AND COMMUNITY LEADERS INSPIRE CHICAGO’S YOUTH TO CHASE THEIR DREAMS

In 1988, Nike inspired a revolution in sport participation. That inspiration came from a series of advertisements tagged with three simple words: Just Do It. Since then, the phrase has become Nike’s guiding philosophy for innovative product, memorable athletic experiences and industry-defining services. To mark the 30th anniversary of this call to action, Nike is creating a series of physical spaces and experiences across the country that enable new generations of athletes to enter that chase for greatness.

That rally cry takes new form in Chicago as one of the first manifestations of this summer-long effort comes to life with Nike’s Chicago Basketball Family Reunion, including students from Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Kenwood Academy, Simeon Career Academy, Marshall Metropolitan High School, Morgan Park High School, Perspectives Charter School and Whitney Young High School.

Recently, nearly 500 Chicagoland high school basketball athletes came together and kick off the summer at Nike’s Family Reunion – an experience designed to instill belief, bring inspiration and get student athletes started on their personal journeys. Held in the heart of Loyola University Chicago, student athletes enjoyed a variety of fun activities and games while hearing from some of the game’s brightest stars.

At the event, Nike hosted a discussion featuring a panel of Chicago basketball legends, pro athletes and various leaders from the sports community. Also in attendance were: WNBA Chicago Sky Players ALLIE QUIGLEY, STEFANIE DOLSON, COURTNEY VANDERSLOOT, GABBY WILLIAMS. Loyola University’s DONTE INGRAM, Chicago legends and community leaders DOROTHY GATERS, SONNY PARKER, and LAUREN FOSTER.
