Rep. Rita Welcomes Catholic Charities to Blue Island

State Rep. Bob Rita is welcoming one of Chicagoland’s most prominent charitable organizations to help needy families in his district.

Rita, D-Blue Island, joined several dozens well-wishers recently for the grand opening of Catholic Charities’ new South/Southwest Regional Center in Blue Island. The opening ceremony was held at the gymnasium of the

former St. Isidore Elementary School, which closed in 2001.

Officials with Catholic Charities, led by President and CEO Monsignor Michael Boland, joined with local residents and officials to dedicate the new facility and pledge to fulfill the organization’s longtime mission of serving the less fortunate.

Services in the South and Southwest Regions of Catholic Charities include everything from emergency food and utility aid and counseling to childcare and housing.

Rita, a strong supporter of the Catholic Church and Catholic Charities, is hopeful the new center will help people get back on their feet in Blue Island and around the 28th District he serves.

“Catholic Charities serves a wonderful mission of helping people help themselves,” Rita said. “The new center will meet a need in our community and provide new use for the St. Isidore school. I look forward to working with Catholic Charities to make a difference for our community and give

people a brighter future.”
